  Radioactive decay and half-life

This application presents a visual model with tabular data or a graphical plot of the decay process.

The application also makes pupils aware of the random nature of radioactive decay. The simulation produces realistic data which varies from the theoretical curve. Pupils learn that when dealing with low numbers of nuclei (or a low count rate) data must be taken over several simulations in order to get an accurate value for the half-life.

A feature-rich application to investigate the decay of short-lived radioactive materials and determine their half-lives. The simulation outputs tabular or graphical data in real-time that the pupils analyse to calculate the half-life. This resource includes complementary worksheets.
